Princess Diana, One Day One Dress: 16th April 1983, Melbourne Hilton Hotel, Australia

The Princess of Wales attends a glittering dinner-dance at the Melbourne Hilton Hotel in Australia on 16th April 1983. She wears a one-sleeved dress in cream silk chiffon by the late fashion designer Hachi. The dress was given as a present to Diana by Vogue deputy editor Anna Harvey. It was the Princess’s first slinky and sophisticated evening gown and it is embroidered all over with translucent gold and silver glass beads and crystals and incorporates an elaborate design on the shoulder and waist.
YOU magazine was the high bidder with $75,100 for this dress at the Christie’s auction.
