On 3rd April 1983 during an official trip in Australia, Prince Charles, accompanied by Princess Diana, travelled to Warwick Farm to play in a polo match, his first for six months. For the Princess, though, there was an ulterior motive. At the match she met Ann Bolton, her flatmate from bachelor-girl days, who was now resident in Australia. The Princess was wearing a pale blue and white stripes dress with a white sailor collar by Catherine Walker.
The Princess of Wales visited Wales on 16 November 1993 to carry out a series of engagements in Carmarthen including a visit at the Teen Challenge in Gorslas where she visited a crafs workshop and met staff and students. Diana was wearing a double-breasted green tweed wool suit with green velvet trim along the lapels, the sleeves and the pockets and a pencil skirt. The jacket features self covered velvet buttons.
On 11th May 1986 in Tokyo, Japan, the Princess of Wales wore an elegant cream and black wool suit by Catherine Walker. The double-breasted white jacket has black covered buttons to match the collar and cuffs and is completed with a long pleated black skirt. More than 100 000 people lined the streets of Tokyo in scenes of near hysteria to catch a glimpse of the Prince and Princess of Wales as they passed by in their open car. The couple visited St Alban’s Anglican church and the Princess watched demonstrations of doll-making and ikebana in the annexe of the Akasaka Palace.
The Princess of Wales visits the new Westway Dairy plant in West London on 16th September 1987. At this occasion she wears a sophisticated, burgundy silk dress finely striped with cream by Victor Edelstein. The dress offers a contrast between the tight, trim cummerbund belt and the fussier matching bow ans puff sleeves.
The Princess of Wales attends a tribute concert for Sammy Davis Jr. at the Royal Albert Hall on 23rd June 1992. She wears a double-breasted black and white banded nautical-style silk cocktail suit by Catherine Walker with a square neckline, a double row of pearl and diamanté buttons and long sleeves with white cuffs.
Diana arrives at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children on 2nd December 1982.She wears a raspberry pink woollen double-breasted two-piece suit designed by Jasper Conran. The long jacket has turned back cuffs, a mandarin collar and fastens with a double row of transparent buttons. The suit is completed with a full skirt.
The Princess of Wales meets Pope John Paul II at the Vatican on 29 April 1985. At this occasion the Princess is required to adhere to the demands of protocol and wears a calf-length black lace dress by Catherine Walker. The Victorian style dress with a dropped V-shaped skirt is worn with a lace veil in the same fabric. The back view reveals some exquisite button detailing. Protocol also demanded that the Princess wear gloves, an accessory not much used in her working wardrobe.
