Princess Diana, One Day One Dress: 9th March 1981, Goldsmiths Hall, London

The infamous low-cut taffeta dress that Diana wore for a first official engagement with Prince Charles, a Royal Opera House benefit in London’s Goldsmith’s Hall in March 1981. She wanted to wear black because she thought it would make her look sophisticated. It is a strapless black silk taffeta evening gown with a full skirt and frills at the top, designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel that she chose from stock.
