On 11th May 1986 in Tokyo, Japan, the Princess of Wales wore an elegant cream and black wool suit by Catherine Walker. The double-breasted white jacket has black covered buttons to match the collar and cuffs and is completed with a long pleated black skirt. More than 100 000 people lined the streets of Tokyo in scenes of near hysteria to catch a glimpse of the Prince and Princess of Wales as they passed by in their open car. The couple visited St Alban’s Anglican church and the Princess watched demonstrations of doll-making and ikebana in the annexe of the Akasaka Palace.
During a polo match at Smiths Lawn, Windsor Great Park in June 1986 the Princess recreates the rock and roll look of the fifties with ankle polka dots socks with red high heels to match her polka dot pleated skirt and “sloppy joe” sweater. The co-ordinating ensemble is from the German fashion house, Mondi that Diana bought herself at Harrods.
The Princess of Wales wore this Cossack-style suit by Caroline Charles to Hull in March 1986. The high hat is in purple velvet.
