Duchess Kate: royal blue coat dress by Eponine

Vintage-inspired double wool crepe belted, royal blue coat dress featuring three quarter length sleeves, a collar with notch cut outs, and wide pleats at the front and back. By the British fashion label Eponine.

This coat dress is elegant and is beautifully tailored but I don’t find the three-quarter sleeves comfortable especially for a winter garment.

1- The Duchess of Cambridge wore this coat on 11th January 2017 to visit the Anna Freud National Centre in London and later the Child Bereavement UK Centre in East London.

Princess Diana, One Day One Dress: 9th April 1987, Middlesex hospital, London

The Princess of Wales challenged prejudice towards HIV in April 1987 when she famously held hands with an AIDS patient for the cameras when opening the first purpose-built AIDS ward at Middlesex Hospital in London. A breakthrough gesture at the time, after shaking hands with nine victims, the Princess helped dispelling fears that the disease can be caught by normal social contact. It also showed her compassion and commitment to her charities. For the occasion, Diana wore a discreet tight-fitting royal blue dress by Victor Edelstein.

Duchess Kate: sapphire blue embroidered gown and shawl by Jenny Packham

Sapphire blue floor-length gown hand embroidered with ornate silver beading, featuring a full gathered chiffon skirt  trailing along the floor, a boat neckline and long sleeves. The gown is completed with a sheer shawl in matching blue with sparkling beading. The beading was done by artisans in India. It is a bespoke piece by Jenny Packham.

I like the effect of the skirt of this gown as well as the long beaded sleeves and corsage. I however prefer it without the shawl, as it makes the whole look a bit tacky.
